Gavin Kilen's revenge tour, parts one through five. A week ago we slid Kilen down to #5 to make room for Bo Davidson. Kilen responded by hitting .556 with two homers, two doubles, nine RBI and zero strikeouts in 18 at bats. He swaps back into #4, Davidson back to #5, and the lesson is that promotion announcements are not a stable financial product. Up at MLB, Bryce Eldridge spent the week learning how good big league fastballs are (2 for 12, one homer, four punchouts), and Jesus Rodriguez kept being the most contrarian catcher in the system (.333 in 18 MLB at bats, one HR).

In Double-A, Joe Whitman did the loudest thing a left handed starter can do in a week: 11 innings, zero earned runs, fifteen strikeouts across two starts. Daniel Susac came down to AAA for three games and went 7 for 11 with two homers, because of course he did. At the other end of the experience curve, Argenis Cayama gave up six hits and seven runs and got two outs, which is a stat line that should come with a hug. He drops from #18 to #22.

Eldridge made his proper extended major league debut this week and ran into the part of the curriculum where they teach you how good big league fastballs are. Two hits in 14 at bats, a homer, two walks, five strikeouts. That is a Bryce Eldridge first week. The Triple-A line he carried with him is the one that matters: .963 OPS, walk rate north of 14 percent, no panic anywhere. He is 21 and here. Enjoy.

Three games in the ACL, three hits, a double, two walks, four strikeouts. We are reading tea leaves out of an espresso cup again. He looks fine. The strikeouts will eventually drop or they will not, but at 18 in the ACL nobody knows anything yet.

An 18 year old shortstop in Single-A with a 1.077 OPS over the last week, ten stolen bases on the year, and a 17.5 percent strikeout rate. The K rate is the most exciting number on a 2026 prospect sheet for the Giants. Continue to enjoy responsibly.

A 1.600 OPS week with zero strikeouts in 18 at bats. Three hits, two doubles and a homer Saturday, four hits and another homer Sunday. Last week we slid him to #5. This week he kicks the door back open. Kilen back to #4.

The price of being promoted to #4 last week is that the universe makes you go 7 for 24 with no extra base hits beyond a pair of doubles. He is still hitting .286 with five homers as a guy who was supposed to be a depth bat. Cooling, not collapsing.

The honeymoon period of the Gilbert callup is wearing off, and what is left looks like a fourth outfielder doing fourth outfielder things. The plate approach is still fine, only four punchouts and a couple walks. He is not driving anything. Stick with him.

The weeks where Jordan does not connect look like this: five games, four singles, five strikeouts, three walks. The .871 season OPS is still living comfortably. A .618 L7 line with an OBP above .360 is the polite way to slump.

Rodriguez got the call too, and a catcher who only struck out three times against MLB pitching last week is the kind of thing organizations frame on the wall. Five games, six hits, a homer, four RBI. We promoted him to the Top 10 in April and looked smart for three weeks. Now we look smart again.

Four innings, one hit, zero earned runs, seven strikeouts. The walks (three in four) are still a concern. The swing and miss is real and the stat line for the week is the kind of thing that makes you forget about a 5.68 season ERA. Forget responsibly.

Five innings, ten strikeouts, no walks. In Single-A you are usually allowed one of those numbers per start and Martinez collected the set. He has 34 punchouts in 20.2 innings on the year, the kind of K rate that gets your name on Top 100 lists by midsummer.

Joe Whitman is the loudest mover of the bunch. Eleven innings, no earned runs, fifteen strikeouts across two Double-A starts. Double-A is supposed to be where the strikeout rate dips. Whitman is doing the opposite. Daniel Susac spent the week at AAA and answered every question we had about whether the bat would slow down: 7 for 11, two homers, three games, 1.849 OPS. The slug is real. Argenis Cayama went the other direction. The 19 year old gave up seven earned runs in two thirds of an inning, walked three, struck out nobody, and now goes from #18 to #22 with a note from the prospect police.

Aeverson Arteaga (#44) had the loudest deep cuts week: 6 for 13, three doubles, four games, 1.192 OPS in Double-A. That is the kind of line that gets you reconsidered. Jose Astudillo (#51) is hitting .400 in a tiny San Jose sample and stealing bases like it is his hobby. On the other end, Robert Hipwell is hitting .094 in 64 at bats. Not a typo. He is still walking. Baseball is hard.

No new injuries from the past week. The list is short, grim, and unchanged.

The DSL season starts in five weeks. Until then we are at the mercy of small samples, midweek roster moves, and the eternal mystery of why the Giants keep promoting people on Mondays. See you next Tuesday.
